It all started when…
Survivor Love Letter was started by filmmaker and activist, Tani Ikeda in 2012 on the anniversary of her rape. She wrote a Love letter to herself celebrating another year of surviving. Since then, it has become a hashtag, a letter writing campaign engaging thousands, and a viral social movement that immerses survivors of sexual assault with boundless support and Love. In the past Survivor Love Letter has taken the form of community-sourced love letters written by survivors and their allies, political actions, and augmented reality murals in New York and Los Angeles. Tani is now expanding it into a virtual reality experience.
She believes that in order to truly heal from trauma, we must immerse survivors in a universe where self love is not only possible, but is the only reality.
Tani has traveled the country sharing her story and used art as a way to transform community. She wants the survivors of the world to know that not only are they believed, not only are they supported--they are loved.
